Web 2.0 Final Reflection
This class was very interesting and informative of the different resources on the internet. I really enjoyed how much the class stresses implementation of the internet in education. Being a Technology Major I cannot imagine teaching a class without using the internet, but I know that many other people are not aware of the possibilities the internet has on the classroom. I also like the fact that we looked into useing the internet to better communicate with our colleagues and parents. by useing social bookmarking teachers can not only acess bookmarks from anywhere but they can share them with anyone, what a powerful tool. By using Wikkis teachers and students can work on projects together updating and changing information from anywhere. By thinking outside the box teachers can use the web to greatly increase communication in the classroom.
As for the class setup I enjoyed the ease of the online forum, being able to work on the class at my convenience made it easier for me to allocate time for the class. I found the discussions to be informative. It is nice to get the opinion of many people across a range of different areas. With a forum post where people don’t really know each other well I think it allows people to be honest without fear of what others will think of them.
I do not see the Webquest as anything I would use in my class. Some call it higher order teaching, but i think it can make teachers lazy. If the students can do everything through a webquest what is the point of having a teacher? I could see it used as a extra project that students who were ahead of the class could do to challenge themselves. If it is not used properly it could be very dangerous to education.
Overall I found the class to be interesting and I think I learned a few new ways to integrate the web into my classroom. Seeing different people’s perspectives on topics was also a very fun and exciting aspect of the class.
